Item consists of commentary during totem pole creation: includes anecdotes, reflections on working on the pole and with Norman Tait, strategies for certain tools and designs, celebrations, stories and challenges of the poles, and experiences with masks and regalia.
Vickie Jensen's description (from November 2021 archival accession notes): "Transcript A1 of interview with Howard Green, NEC director, and Marty Aspinaw (sp?); Transcript B2 says Tape #1-Gibson's Landing, L&K Log Sorting Yard-these are my taped notes made after the visit to L&K Log Sort and first time Norman saw the log; Transcript C2: pt page basically says the same thing as B2, but then I interviewed Chip April 11 in the Turnbull and Gale lumber yard (raining) They started rounding the log, taking off the sapwood at the lumber yard and then decided to move it to the UBC carving shed; Transcript D2: pole moving day; Transcript E2: to April 23 (Norman looking at my photos), N (Norman) talking to R (Robert "Chip"), H (Hammy), I (Isaac) and W (Wayne); Transcript F2. labeled Tape 3 (day after Wayne started the fin, Isaac starts the beak add on; 48 hours after the 1st cuts); Transcript G2: Making tools and April 28, Norman talking about carving faces; Transcript H2: (This was the day of the nursery school visit) Note on transcript says last photo is 211 for this tape. There are two transcripts stapled together, 2nd one seems to have different info (begins with page #3); Transcript 12 titled Crew pole: pt Vickie is talking to Isaac, then Wayne, Hammy, Robert (goes to tape 2); Transcript J2 titled "Norman's personal history tape"; Transcript K2: (2 transcripts) Dated June 24 with Norman talking about Oyea and taking crew to MOA and totem poles, also lady who gave him the story of the pole.; Transcript L2: short with only a bit about moving the finished pole to the NEC site; Transcript M2: short tape with Norman telling the story of the pole; Transcript N2: Button Blanket tape with Hope and Norman, later Barb (?), Jesse and Hope; Transcript 02: Hope talking about training younger generation; Transcript P: Canoe trip (from the Button Blanket tape); Transcript Q: Nov 28, 1985 Interview with Wayne Young while looking at photos of working on the whale fin; Transcript R2: Sept interview with Howard Green, director of Native Educ.
