Image is a portrait of a man in a cross-legged seated pose. He appears to be holding a piece of printed matter. A handwritten inscription below the image in red ink reads "Captain John"; this has been scratched out. An additional inscription reads "Amos Cushion". The verso contains the handwritten inscription "no. 21" in red ink and "Cushion fo? w? Bryant".
