Sasquatch Conference

Sub-series consists of records relating to Halpin’s planning and organization of the Sasquatch conference. The records include correspondence between Halpin and speakers, scholars, general inquiries regarding the conference, interdepartmental memorandas, funding and grant applications, conference paper abstracts, articles, book reviews, conference summaries, news releases, newspaper clippings, pamphlets, postcards, photographs, sew-on patches with Sasquatch figures on them, and audio cassettes of interviews and presentations from the Sasquatch conference.

Scholarly research materials

Subseries contains copies of various published and unpublished essays related to Sawyer’s research on Northwest Coast artifacts, including essays written by Frederica de Laguna, Aldonia Jonaitis, Sylvia Albright, James Haggarty and Richard Inglis, Philip Drucker, Bill Holm and more. Other research materials include maps and newspaper clippings related to the Northwest Coast.

Scrapbooks

Subseries consists of records compiled by Sawyer on various Northwest coast artifacts in a number of scrapbooks. Graphic materials include photographs and postcards depicting items such as weavings, masks, totem poles, villages, and other artifacts. Some of the photographs contain information about the artifact being depicted, such as the First Nation community that created the artifact, the date of the artifact’s creation, the museum and/or location that the artifact is located in, and/or the dimensions of the artifact. Textual materials include newspaper and magazine clippings, museum brochures, and drawings of artifacts.

Sensibilities

Sub-series consists of textual records related to the exhibition “Sensibilities” that challenged the notations of segregated collections space according to culture. The basic premise of the exhibit was for the viewer to come up with their own interpretation as to the objects presented before them. Records include exhibit planning notes, exhibit floor plan drawings, correspondence, loan forms, and newspaper articles about the exhibit.

Sensibilities

Subseries contains images of objects in the exhibit Sensibilities: Unsuspected Multicultural Harmonies which ran at the Museum of Anthropology from October 26 1982 – April 17, 1983.

Shadbolt exhibit

Sub-series consists of records related to the 1986 exhibition on the art of Jack Shadbolt and includes textual records, photographs, slides, and one lecture tape. The textual records include grants and contracts, correspondence requesting loans of specific artwork for the exhibit, records relating to exhibit planning and compilation of the exhibit catalogue, exhibit reviews, a copy of the exhibit comment book, and interviews with Shadbolt. Also included are photographs of exhibit pieces.
The sub-series has been divided into three sub-sub-series:

  1. Grants, 1984-1986
  2. Loans, 1980-1986
  3. General, 1973-1986

Shuswap teacher training

Consists of materials produced for teaching training and development during Phase 2 of the Shuswap project. Includes a Teacher’s Manual developed with the assistance of Joy Wild, teaching units, Chilcotin readers by Maria Myers (produced during this period by Jensen) and a Chilcotin alphabet sheet.
