Subseries contains largely photographs of artworks of Northwest Coast First Nations artists located at various cultural heritage institutions as well as in private collections. The majority of the information within the files was collected by McLennan for research purposes, and includes textual documentation about the lives of the artists, correspondence with the artists, information about exhibits based on the artists’ work and newspaper clippings and other stories about the personal life of the artists.

File contains detailed catalogue lists of photographs of the Nass River taken by C.F. and W.A. Newcombe, Victoria B.C., and lent to C.M. Barbeau in September 1927.

File contains correspondence between McLennan and the BC Archives regarding photo requisitions. Also included in the file are photocopied images of some of the photos McLennan requested in his letters to the BC Archives.

Subseries contains mainly digital files with some accompanying textual records of records which mostly pertain to ideas that McLennan had for books he wanted to write. In some cases an actual book was created and published, and in other cases a book was printed (not published) to show perspective donors. Potential book subjects are listed as follows: argillite, Charles Edenshaw [file contains an assemblage of digital images that could be used in a publication], Edenshaw exhibit [file contains records related to the Edenshaw exhibit “Signed Without Signature”], Explorers [notes for the beginning of an idea for a book], Gisaxstala, MOA books [these books were made as talking pieces to show prospective sponsors of gallery space what could be done in the galleries, and what had not yet been done], Port Essington, Raven Rattle, Seeing, Thinking, Serenipitous Assembly, Site Specific, Weavers Workshop. Other subjects included in this subseries pertain to book ideas or contacts who would have been interested in sponsoring book including Elspeth McConnell and Michael Audain.

File contains images of Northwest Coast, possibly Heiltsuk, artifacts including a mask, sculpture, and weapons housed at the British Museum.

File contains images of Northwest Coast artifacts and exhibitions housed at the Brooklyn Art Museum. Some artifacts include hats, spoons and bowls.

File contains catalogue cards of several Northwest Coast artifacts housed at the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture.

Files contains a photocopy of a book chapter titled "Form and Construction".

File contains information about the Northwest Coast canoe including how they're made, their importance, and their history. There are also photocopied images of canoes from the Nuu-chah-nulth and the Kwakwaka'wakw communities.

File contains a document on canoe making. It also contains a photocopy of a manuscript from the Newcombe Notebook held at the BC Provincial Archives (now known as the Royal British Columbia Museum).

File contains a copy of an article titled "Carving a Kwakiutl canoe," and an excerpt from Franz Boas' <i> The Kwakiutl of Vancouver Island </i> manuscript published in 1909.

File contains a combination of historical and modern day images of canoes used by First Nation groups living on the Northwest Coast. The historical images contain images of village life and uses of the canoe in a historical context. The modern day images show canoes housed in various museums in Canada and the United States. The textual records contained in this file are photocopies of images of canoes, both from historical photographs and of modern day photographs.
