Biografie

Victorian Henry grew up in Burlington, Ontario and studied Fine Arts at the University of Toronto. She lived with her husband and three children in Lusaka, Zambia from 1972 to 1975, during which she began to collect African art in earnest. Leaving Africa in 1975, Henry began the Ufundi Gallery, specializing in Makonde and other African art. Henry continued making regular trips to Africa, India, and China to buy work until the gallery closed in 1992.

Geschiedenis beheer

Bereik en inhoud

This file contains one teacher’s handbook, one 16-page photocopied document, and 57 colour and black and white photographic prints presumably taken by Victoria Henry during her trip to Goroka, Papua New Guinea. The photographs depict the town’s inhabitants in town, at the market, outside their homes, and in ceremony. The file includes a 16-page black and white scan of the original placement of photos in its former photo album. A Goroka Teachers’ College handbook is also included, possibly related to a photograph #55 of a schoolroom (on photo sheet #8), and contains a curriculum book to obtain a Diploma in Teaching from the country’s Department of Education.
