Image of two totem poles at Alert Bay. In the foreground is the Thunderbird (top) and Dzunukwa(bottom) totem pole in Alert Bay. Pole was carved in 1931 at Blunden Harbour by Willie Seaweed, assisted by Joe Seaweed. Totem pole was a memorial for Billie Moon. In the background is a memorial pole for Wa'osta'as, wife of Sam Charlie. Carved in the 1800's by an unknown carver.

Fonds consists of material related to the art, research, and writing of Hilary Stewart. The bulk of the material is related to the production of her books on the culture and art of the First Nations peoples of the Pacific Northwest. The remaining material relates to illustrations that she did for publications by other authors, a small amount of material done for personal use, and collected research and ephemera that does not appear to be related to one specific publication. Material includes original illustrations, collected research and notes, book drafts and pre-press materials, photographs, correspondence, and collected memorabilia.
The material has been arranged into three series:

File consists of two buttons from the efforts in 1985 efforts to protect the South Moresby islands (Gwaii Haanas) of Haida Gwaii. One button has the text: "Protect Lyell island, Haida Country." The other is from the South Moresby Caravan, 1986. Protesters efforts led to the creation of the Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve.
