Nigerian Newspaper Clippings

This file contains 60 newspaper clippings totaling 86 pages between 1966 and 1967 of the Daily Times, Sunday Times, Sunday Post, Nigerian Daily Sketch, and The New Nigerian. The clippings represent topics related to the leadup and beginning of the Nigerian Civil War, government, infrastructure, art, literature, religion, sensationalism, and everyday occurrences in the country.

Goroka, Papua New Guinea

This file contains one teacher’s handbook, one 16-page photocopied document, and 57 colour and black and white photographic prints presumably taken by Victoria Henry during her trip to Goroka, Papua New Guinea. The photographs depict the town’s inhabitants in town, at the market, outside their homes, and in ceremony. The file includes a 16-page black and white scan of the original placement of photos in its former photo album. A Goroka Teachers’ College handbook is also included, possibly related to a photograph #55 of a schoolroom (on photo sheet #8), and contains a curriculum book to obtain a Diploma in Teaching from the country’s Department of Education.

This fonds includes items collected by Victoria Henry while she lived in Africa and traveled to Papua New Guinea. The fonds contain newspaper clippings possibly collected by Henry while living in Zambia, East Africa between 1972-1975. The fonds also contains photographs assumed to have been taken by Henry while visiting Goroka, Papua New Guinea, as well as a 1972 Teachers’ College Handbook from the country’s Department of Education.
