Songs by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Louis of Kitimat Part 3

Item is third of three sound recordings made by Dr. Ida Halpern that feature Mr. and Ms. Fred Louis of Kitimat, British Columbia singing what are possibly Nuu-chah-nulth songs, along with drum accompaniment. Mr. Louis introduces each song. He states in the recording that most songs are written by his cousin Simon Peter of Iqaluit.

Mungo Martin and Charles Docherty working on a totem pole. Charles Docherty, a carpenter, was hired as his assistant. The pole in the background was carved by Charlie James and was restored by Mungo Martin. It stood in Totem Park at UBC until it was moved to the Great Hall of the Museum of Anthropology.
